Funding for Special Olympics
Special Olympics is the worlds largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. Funding for Special Olympics comes from the US education budget. Betsy Devos, Secretary of Education defended a plan to cut funding for Special Olympics. The proposal was to cut ten percent of the funding, which would be eighteen million dollars. Devos argued that the Special Olympics is a private organization and does not need federal banking. This caused a lot of controversy and many people did not agree with the proposal to cut funding for Special Olympics.
The proposal caused criticism from lawmakers, advocates and celebrities. President Trump was one of the people who announced he did not agree with cutting funding for the Special Olympics. President Trump discussed how he had been to the special olympics and believes it is an incredible organization. President Trump announced that he had overridden his people and they were not going to cut any funding for Special Olympics.
